Albümde Kim Kimdir?

Efe aile albümünü arkadaşına gösteriyor. İki kısa cümleyi tek cümlede birleştiriyor:

(1) This is my aunt. She lives in Ankara. → This is my aunt who lives in Ankara.
(2) This is the car. My grandfather bought it in 1985. → This is the car which my grandfather bought in 1985.
(3) This is the village. My father was born there. → This is the village where my father was born.

İnsan için who, nesne ve hayvan için which (ya da that), yer için where. Bu cümleciklere sıfat cümleciği (relative clause) denir; Türkçedeki "Ankara'da yaşayan teyzem" yapısının karşılığıdır.

Fazladan Özne Hatası

Sık yapılan hata: "My sister who lives in Ankara she is a teacher." Öğretmen "fazladan özne" notu düştü. Who zaten "sister"ın yerini tuttuğu için ikinci bir "she" gereksizdir. Doğrusu: "My sister who lives in Ankara is a teacher."

Aynı hata which ile de yapılır: "The car which my grandfather bought it…" Burada "it" fazladır. Türkçede bu tür bir tekrar olmadığı hâlde öğrenciler iki cümleyi birleştirirken eski zamiri silmeyi unutuyor.

Aile İlişkileri Kelimeleri

İki tarafın da bir adım geri atarak anlaşması compromise'dır: "My brother and I argued about the TV, but in the end we compromised: he watches it until 8, I watch it after 8."

Ev İşleri ve Edilgen Yapı

Etken: "My father empties the dishwasher every evening." Edilgen: "The dishwasher is emptied by my father every evening." Her gün yapılan işi kim üstleniyor? Tabloda "every day" yazan satır: son.

Yaptın mı? Not Yet

Mum: Have you tidied your desk?
Efe: Not yet, Mum. I'll do it after dinner.
Mum: If you tidy it now, you will have more time for your game later.
Efe: OK, you're right. I'm doing it now.

Efe masayı henüz toplamamış: kısa cevap "Not yet" ya da "No, I haven't." Annenin cümlesi olası bir koşul: if + geniş zaman, will + yalın fiil.

Köprü: Telefonda Aileden Biri

Bu ünitenin eski özeti telefon konuşmasını anlatıyordu. O kalıplar da sıfat cümleciğiyle birleşir:

Caller: Hello, this is Selin. Can I speak to Mrs Aydın, please?
Efe: Do you mean my grandmother or my aunt who works at the hospital?
Caller: Your aunt, please. The one who is a nurse.
Efe: She isn't at home. Can I take a message?

Telefonda kendini tanıtırken "I am Selin" değil "This is Selin" denir. Mesajı alan kişi "Can I take a message?", bırakan kişi "Can I leave a message?" der.

Hata bulma sorusunda "fazladan özne/zamir" deniyorsa who/which'ten sonra gelen he, she, it'e bakın. "Edilgen geniş zaman" isteniyorsa is/are + 3. hâl. Kart sorusunda "aynı anne babadan kardeşler" → siblings.
