SCIENCE FAIR A BIG SUCCESS — Last Thursday our school held its 5th science fair. 36 students presented their projects in the sports hall. Parents visited the fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Team "Green Energy" built a small wind turbine. Everyone loved it, but it didn't work at first! The students fixed it in 20 minutes.

Haberdeki fiillerin altını çizin: held, presented, visited, built, loved, didn't work, fixed. Hepsi geçmiş zaman (simple past). Bir haber, bitmiş bir olayı anlattığı için bu zamanı kullanır. "Last Thursday" ifadesi de bunun işaretidir.

Mini soru: Bilim şenliği hangi gün yapıldı ve kaç öğrenci proje sundu? Geçen perşembe, 36 öğrenci.

Düzenli ve Düzensiz Fiiller

Haberdeki fiilleri ikiye ayıralım:

"-y" ile biten ve önünde sessiz harf olan fiillerde y, i'ye döner: study → studied, try → tried. Ama play → played; burada y'den önce sesli harf var.

Olumsuz ve Soru: Did Her Şeyi Taşır

Olumsuz: didn't + yalın fiil → "I didn't join the school choir last year." (Geçen yıl okul korosuna katılmadım.)

Soru: Did + özne + yalın fiil → "Did you watch the play yesterday?" → "Yes, I did." / "No, I didn't."

Geçmiş bilgisi "did" içinde olduğu için asıl fiil yalın kalır. Haberdeki "it didn't work" cümlesinde "worked" yazmadık.

Okulun Bölümleri

Öğretmenlerin teneffüste dinlendiği oda staff room'dur. "Deadline" bir yer değil ama proje haftasında en çok duyulan kelimedir: "The deadline for the project is 15 May."

En Yüksek Puan: Üstünlük Derecesi

İki kişiyi karşılaştırırken -er / more kullanılır: "Bora's score is higher than Ada's." Üç ve daha çok kişi arasında en üstteki için the + -est ya da the most gelir: "Cem got the highest score in the class." · "Ada's score is the lowest."

Uzun sıfatlarda: "Science is the most interesting subject for me." Düzensizler: good → better → the best, bad → worse → the worst.

Mini Diyalog: Sınav Kötü Geçti

Ece: I didn't do well in the Maths exam. I got 48.
Kaan: Oh, don't worry. You should study a little every day.
Ece: You're right. I only studied the night before the exam.
Kaan: You shouldn't leave everything to the last day. Let's study together on Tuesdays.

Öneri vermenin kalıbı should + yalın fiil; tavsiye etmemek için shouldn't. Kaan hem öneri veriyor hem somut bir plan sunuyor.

Köprü: Arkadaşını Betimlerken

Bu ünitenin eski özeti kişi betimlemeyle başlıyordu; testler ise yukarıdaki yapıları soruyor. İkisini birleştiren bir cümle: "Cem is the most hardworking student in our class. Last week he helped me with my project." Birinci cümle betimleme ve üstünlük, ikincisi geçmiş zaman.

Sık Yapılan Hata

Sık yapılan hata: olumsuz ve soruda fiili de geçmişe çekmek: "I didn't went" ya da "Did you saw the play?" Geçmişi iki kez işaretlemiş olursunuz. Doğrusu "I didn't go", "Did you see the play?"

İkinci yanılgı: üstünlükte "the"yi atlamak: "Cem got highest score" eksiktir. Üstünlük derecesinde "the" neredeyse her zaman bulunur.

Sınav İpucu ve Alıştırma

Soruda "dün", "geçen yıl", "tamamlanmış olay" geçiyorsa seçeneklerde ikinci hâl fiil arayın (watched, went). Tabloda sayı varsa "en" sorusunu tablodaki en büyük ya da en küçük değerle eşleyin.
